SAAC To Put On Second Annual Student-Athlete Date Auction

March 26, 2003

On the heels of a hugely successful auction last year, the Oregon State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will sponsor the second annual Student-Athlete Date Auction on Tuesday, April 1.

The auction begins at 7 p.m. in Milam Auditorium on the OSU campus, and doors open at 6:30.

The event aims to raise money for a memorial for Joe Zaher and Stephen Hensor, two men's soccer players who passed away in the last seven months.

The auction format allows those in attendance to bid - either individually or in groups - on dates with student-athletes. The dates will be in a package format, so those bidding will doso on the student-athlete and the dinner together.

A total of 10 male and 10 female student-athletes will be up for bid, including Jimmie Haywood (men's basketball), Derek Anderson (football), and Mandy Close and Casey Bunn (women's basketball).

SAAC President Courtney Carter (women's soccer) along with Richard Siegler (football) will be the Masters of Ceremonies.

The event is free, but those bringing cans of food will receive a raffle ticket for various prizes.

Last year's event raised over $3,500 for Stephen Hensor and his family; some bids reached as high as $400.

Hensor passed away on Aug. 30, 2002 after a yearlong battle with liver cancer. Zaher suffered fatal injuries in a car accident on Dec. 1.
