Arizona Men's Tennis Falls to No. 4 UCLA, 5-2

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 40 Arizona men's tennis team fell to the No. 4-ranked UCLA Bruins, 5-2, Friday in the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. Arizona won the doubles point but only managed to win one singles match. Arizona falls to 5-7 overall and 0-1 in Pac-10, while the win improves UCLA's record to 15-1 overall and 2-0 in the Pac-10.
At the No.1 position the pair of junior Whi Kim and sophomore Paul Warkentin handed the UCLA's No. 12-ranked team of Rodrigo Grilli and Marcin Matkowski its second lost of the year, defeating the team, 8-5. Junior Carl Hagman and freshman Daniel Andrus clinched the doubles point for Arizona. The pair rallied back after falling behind, 3-5, to defeat Erfan Djahnagiri and Alberto Francis in the No. 3 slot, 8-6. Playing in the No. 2 position for the Wildcats, freshman Roger Matalonga and sophomore Colin O'Grady lost a tight match to Tobias Clemens and Lassi Ketola, 9-7.
In singles action, Andrus finished his afternoon by defeating Lassi Ketola in the No. 6 position, 6-2, 6-1, earning Arizona its lone singles point. Kim fell to No. 6-ranked Tobias Clemens, 7-5, 6-3. Hagman lost to Marcin Matkowski in the No. 2 position, 6-3, 6-2. On court three, Warkentin fell to No. 33 Erfan Djahangiri, 6-3, 6-0. Clinching the match for the Bruins on court four, No. 98 Rodrigo Grilli defeated Matalonga, 6-3, 7-5. O'Grady fell to No. 24 Chris Lam in the No. 5 slot, 6-3, 6-2.
Arizona will be in action next as it hosts the No. 28 USC Trojans Saturday, March 29 at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
