Cardinal Cruise Over Washington State

Stanford, Calif. - The second-ranked Stanford women's tennis team did not drop a set en route to a 7-0 sweep of visiting Washington State on Friday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The Cardinal improve to 13-1 and 3-0 in the Pac-10, while the Cougars fall to 7-6, 0-2 in league play.

The Cardinal got 8-5 victories at the No. 2 and 3 doubles position to win the team point. Stanford's second-ranked duo of Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ) and Erin Burdette (Jackson, GA) were challenged by Washington State's Lorena Arias and Chris Martinez, but held on to a 9-8 victory to complete the sweep.

Stanford won all six singles matches for the third consecutive match. Amber Liu (La Mesa, CA) picked up the first win at No. 1, beating Orsolya Sallai 6-2, 6-1. Burdette followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the third spot and Alice Barnes (Cambridge, UK) captured the match for the Cardinal with a 6-0, 6-3 win.

Emilia Anderson (Cincinnati, OH), Barnikow and Story Tweedie-Yates (Redmond, WA) all picked up straight set victories, finishing Stanford's 7-0 win.

The Cardinal will have the weekend off and will start a five-match road trip. Stanford will meet USC on April 4 and UCLA on April 5 in Los Angeles.
