Seattle, Wash. - The No. 7 California men's tennis team (14-2, 2-0, Pac-10) earned its second conference victory in as many days, completing a 5-2 victory over the Washington Huskies this afternoon at Bill Quillian Stadium in Seattle. The Bears improve to 8-1 all-time vs. Washington.

After dropping the past two doubles points against Illinois and Oregon, the Bears rebounded to take two of three doubles matches today to claim the all-important doubles point. Washington's Christoph Palmanshofer and Peter Scharler the Huskies only bright spot in doubles play, downing Mik Ledvonova and Conor Niland, 8-5, on court three, forcing the Cal tandem's second loss in a row. On court No. 2, Patrick Briaud and John Paul Fruttero teamed up for the second time this season and claimed their first victory, ending Matt Hanlin and Dillon Ruby's undefeated streak with an 8-6 victory. Seniors Steve Berke and Robert Kowalczyk won their second consecutive match, defeating No. 53 Ari Strasberg and Alex Vlaski on court one to earn the early 1-0 lead.

In singles action, Cal took four out of six matches, but faltered on the top two courts. Washington's Hanlin extended his all-time career wins record to 101 with 6-4,7-6 (7) victory over No. 50 Conor Niland to put the Huskies on the board. Cal's Niland suffered only his second loss of the season on the top court, falling to 6-2 on No. 1 and 19-8 on the year. Senior captain John Paul Fruttero also suffered a setback on court No. 2, losing his second match of the year, this time to the eighth-ranked player in the nation, Alex Vlaski in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.

Those were the only positives for the Huskies on the afternoon as Cal claimed victories on courts three through six. Freshman Or Dekel defeated Fred Sundsten on court three, 7-6, 6-1 while senior All-American Steve Berke controlled a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Peter Scharler on court five. No. 56 Robert Kowalczyk continued his solid spring play, completing his second straight set victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Christoph Palmanshofer on court No. 4.

The wins keep mounting for sophomore Mik Ledvonova as he recorded his 13th consecutive victory dating back to Feb. 15 when he defeated Santa Barbara's Alex Anselme in just the Bears' fourth dual match of the season. Ledvonova, a native of Denmark, has found his spot on court No. 6 as he improved to 10-0 on the last court with a 6-2, 6-3 slashing of Dillon Ruby.

Cal returns home to Berkeley for its next scheduled match against No. 4 UCLA at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 4 at 1:30 p.m. at the Hellman Tennis Center.
