Wilburn Places Third in High Jump at Florida Relays
March 29, 2003
University of California freshman Teak Wilburn was the Golden Bears' highest finisher at the Florida Relays, hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville. Several Cal athletes competed at the elite meet.
Wilburn tied for third in the high jump, posting a mark of 7-0.50. That mark ties his season-best. Redshirt freshman Rhuben Williams finished fifth in the shot put with a mark of 58-5.75 and eighth in the hammer with a season-best throw of 195-0. That mark is good for the sixth best in Cal's history. Williams has already qualified this season for both the NCAA regional and Pac-10 Championships in both events.
Redshirt freshman Elzunia Lamb was Cal's only female competitor in the field events. Lamb finished seventh out of a field of 16 in the long jump with a mark of 19-2. That mark is her best so far this season and meets Pac-10 qualifying standards.
The Bears' only running event of the day was the women's 4x100 shuttle hurdle relay. Cal's squad of freshmen Osarhiemen Omwanghe and Mary Meyman, redshirt freshman Elzunia Lamb and junior Stephanie Cowling notched a fourth-place finish in section one with a time of 59.71.
Next up for Cal is the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by Georgia Tech in Atlanta next Saturday, Apr. 5. Check http://www.calbears.com for a complete recap and results.
