UCLA Slated To Compete At Missouri In NCAA Regionals

The top-ranked UCLA Gymnastics team will travel to Columbia, Mo. for the NCAA South Central Regional Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, Apr. 12. Joining the Bruins in the Regional will be 12th-ranked Oregon State, 13th-ranked Iowa, 19th-ranked Arizona, host Missouri and Illinois-Chicago. The meet will take place in the Hearnes Center at 6:00 pm Central Time.

The top two teams at the regional will receive a berth in the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Lincoln, Neb. Apr. 24-26. The top two all-arounders and the event winners not from an advancing team will also qualify for the NCAA Championships. Also competing at the meet will be five at-large individual all-around competitors and four at-large individual event specialists.

UCLA will begin the regional meet on a bye before floor exercise and will finish on the balance beam. Iowa will begin on vault, Missouri on a bye before bars, Illinois-Chicago on bars, Arizona on beam and Oregon State on floor.

Last season, the Bruins won the 2002 NCAA South Central Regional Championship at Arizona State.

The six regional fields and sites are as follows:

South Central Region (Columbia, Mo., host Missouri) - No. 1 UCLA, No. 12 Oregon State, No. 13 Iowa, No. 19 Arizona, Missouri, Illinois- Chicago

West Region (Seattle, Wash., host Washington) - No. 2 Nebraska, No. 11 Washington, No. 14 LSU, Boise State, Cal State Fullerton, San Jose State

Northeast Region (Ann Arbor, Mich., host Michigan) - No. 3 Arizona State, No. 10 Michigan, No. 15 Iowa State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, New Hampshire.

Southeast Region (Athens, Ga., host Georgia) - No. 4 Georgia, No. 9 Florida, No. 16 Ohio State, No. 24 North Carolina State, Maryland, North Carolina

Central Region (Tuscaloosa, Ala., host Alabama) - No. 5 Alabama, No. 7 Oklahoma, No. 17 Auburn, No. 21 Kent State, No. 25 Central Michigan

North Central Region (Salt Lake City, Utah, host Utah) - No. 6 Stanford, No. 8 Utah, No. 18 California, No. 20 BYU, No. 21 Denver, No. 23 Minnesota
