Men's Golf Travel to Texas for Border Olympics

What's Happening This Week: WSU men's golf will travel to Laredo, Texas for the Border Olympics at the Par 72, 6,800 yard Casa Blanco Country Club April 4-5...the first 36 holes will be played Saturday, April 4, followed by the final round Sunday, April 5...the Cougars last played at the Border Olympics three years ago at April 1, 2000...the Border Olympics is the nation's second oldest college tournament.

Field: The 20-team field will consist of Texas A & M, Alabama-Birmingham, Arkansas, Baylor, BYU, Colorado State, Iowa State, Kansas State, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Notre Dame, Rhode Island, San Diego State, SMU, Southwest Texas State, Texas-Arlington, Texas Tech, Texas-San Antonio, Rice and Washington State.

Head Coach Walt Williams At The Border Olympics: 'I was really pleased with how the guys came together at the Duck Invite against a very strong field. They showed me, and showed themselves, that even when Dustin White has an off tournament, that they can perform well. I think we can take that momentum into the Border Olympics.'

What Happened Last Tournament: Led by the eleventh place finish by Ryan Ressa, the Washington State men's golf team finished in a tie for seventh place at the Duck Invite at the Par-72, 6,854 yard Eugene Country Club, Tuesday... Ressa shot a three round total of 216 for his highest finish of the season at 11th... Ryan Camp averaged a 1-over 73 at the tourney and finished at a tie for 14th for his fifth Top 25 finish of the season...Isaac Woods finished at a tie for 58th, followed by Dustin White, Chad Carlson, and Alex Dunlop tying for 73rd, and Ben Bryson rounding out the Cougar contingent at 85th...As a team, the Cougars finished the final round in a tie for seventh place ahead of perennial Pac-10 powers Stanford and Oregon State in a very competitive field of 16 teams. The 294 average of WSU is the lowest of the spring season. Arizona and Washington finished tied at first with final totals of 858...

Marking the Scorecard: WSU ranks 89th as a team according to the first Golfweek/Sagarin performance index of the spring...Cougars are ranked 79th in the Div. I head-to-head rankings on Cougars are ranked ninth in total short game according to at .556.

White Hot: Dustin White ranks 235th in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index...White is ranked 176th towards the Golfstat Cup, an award given to the best male golf performers by has been selected as one of the Top 50 male players to watch during the 2002-03 season by GolfWorld magazine in its Sept. 6 issue...
