Bruins Prepare for ASU/PING Tournament

The 16th ranked UCLA women's golf team travels to Phoenix, AZ for the 38th Annual ASU/PING Invitational, Apr. 4-6 at the Karsten Golf Course.

The Karsten Golf Course will play to a par of 72 over 6,183 yards. Tournament format will be 54 holes of stroke play over three days.

The 16-team field features 11 of the nation's top 30 ranked teams, including No.4 Texas, No.5 USC, No.6 Arizona and No.9 California.

Also competing is the nation's top-ranked player in Arizona freshman Erica Blasberg.

For the Bruins, sophomore Charlotte Mayorkas, ranked ninth nationally, will play No.1. Mayorkas posted her fourth straight Top 10 finish at the UCLA/Pioneer Bruin Classic, Mar. 24-26, capturing sixth place. She leads the team with a stroke average of 74.1.

Also competing for the Bruins will be juniors Hana Kim and Krystal Shearer, who tied for 11th at the Pioneer Classic each after posting final round scores of 70, two-under par. Shearer averages 76.0 and Kim has a stroke average of 77.8.

Freshman Susie Mathews will be making her second appearance of 2003 after tying for 23rd place. Junior Gina Umeck tied for 52nd at the Pioneer event and is averaging 75.3 strokes per round.

Junior Bridget Dwyer will play as an individual after tying for 28th place at the Pioneer Classic. She is averaging 77.2.
