Cal Varsity Eight Ranked No. 4 in Preseason Polls

BERKELEY - The University of Washington garnered 13 first-place votes to claim the top spot in this year's opening USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll. In the Division II poll, University of California at Davis was the unanimous selection, receiving all five first-place votes, while Williams College topped the NCAA Division III Varsity Eight Coaches Poll, receiving six of the 10 first-place votes.
In the Division I poll, Washington, the defending national champion in the varsity eight,was one of five schools to receive first-place votes. No. 2 Princeton University earnedthree first-place votes, while third-ranked Stanford University received six first-placevotes. California and Michigan rounded out the poll's top five, while No. 6 Brown and No. 8 Yale each earned one first-place vote.
'This is an early indicator of the competitiveness of the Pac-10.' said Cal Coach Dave O'Neill. 'With Cal, Washington, Stanford, and USC representing the Pac-10 in the top 10, it makes for an exciting and captivating season. These four schools will all be going for the NCAA title in late May.'
The NCAA Championships for Division I, II, and III schools, hosted by Indiana Universityand USRowing, will take place May 30-June 1 at Eagle Creek Reservoir in Indianapolis.
