Goodrich Adds to Huskies' Growing List of Pac-10 Championships Qualifiers

April 3, 2003

AUSTIN, Texas - Junior Brad Goodrich became Washington's 29th Pac-10 Championships qualifier of the 2003 season Thursday, clocking a time of 53.50 seconds in a preliminary heat of the 400-meter hurdles at the 2003 Texas Relays, on the campus of the University of Texas. The four-day meet, featuring over 5,000 athletes in 125 events, continues Friday and Saturday, with several Husky athletes scheduled to compete on each day.

Goodrich's time of 53.50 seconds placed the Husky fifth in his heat, and was barely a second slower than the 52.33-second mark of Arkansas' Maurice Bridges, who earned the final spot in Saturday's final. Auburn's Fred Sharpe ran the top time of the day, finishing in 50.62 seconds.

A graduate of Maple Valley, Wash.'s Tahoma High School, Goodrich bettered the Pac-10 qualifying standard in the intermediate hurdles for the third-consecutive season. His career-best in the event of 51.45 seconds, set in 2002, ranks second in UW history.

Also competing in a Husky uniform Thursday was sophomore Cambrielle Jensen, who placed third in her heat of the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 1:02.74. Jensen's time was two seconds slower than that of the eighth and final qualifier for Saturday's final.

Already qualified for the NCAA Regional meet in the 400-meter hurdles, Jensen, a graduate of Arlington (Wash.) High School, was the 10th-place finisher in the event at the 2002 Pac-10 Championships.

The Huskies will be well represented in Friday's action at the Texas Relays, with hurdlers Mallory Higgins, Brynne Steward and Marc James, pole vaulter Kate Soma, high jumper Brittiny Roberts and a pair of relay teams schedule to compete.
