No. 11 Men's Tennis Upset By No. 40 Arizona State 4-3

TEMPE, Ariz. - Eleventh-ranked Washington men's team was upset by No. 40 Arizona State, 4-3, in a Pac-10 match contested at ASU's Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz., Friday afternoon.
The loss was the third-straight for the Huskies (14-3 overall, 0-3 Pac-10) who opened the season with a perfect non-conference record of 14-0. With the victory, the Sun Devils improved to 7-9 overall and 3-1 in Pac-10 play.
Washington opened the day on a high note, clinching the doubles point with wins from the 53rd-ranked team of senior Ari Strasberg and sophomore Alex Vlaski and the senior pair of Matt Hanlin and Dillon Ruby, at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively. At No. 3 doubles, the sophomore tandem of Christoph Palmanshofer and Peter Scharler lost a tight 9-8 (7) decision.
The Huskies lost their momentum in the singles portion of the day. Only Vlaski and Hanlin were able put wins under their belt, as eighth-ranked Vlaski defeated Pim Van Mele in straight sets (6-3, 7-5) at No. 1 singles and 19th-ranked Hanlin defeated Clinton Letcher (6-7(5), 6-0, 6-1) at No. 2. All four of the Sun Devils' wins came at No. 3 through No. 6 singles.
Washington continues its five-match road trip with a Pac-10 contest vs. Arizona in Tucson, Saturday, April 5, at 12 p.m. PT.
