WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- USC's Erik Vendt and Ous Mellouli were named the Pacific-10 2002-03 Swimmer and Newcomer of the Year and STANFORD's Skip Kenney was named Coach of the Year, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Vendt, a senior from North Eaton, Mass., swam the 1650 free in 14:29.85 at the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, marking the second-fastest time ever in the event. The win marked his fifth career NCAA title. At the Pac-10 Championships in Long Beach, Calif., Vendt became the first Trojan swimmer since 1977 to win three Conference titles in the same meet. He took home the 500 free, 400 IM and 1650 free titles.

Mellouli, a freshman from Tunis, Tunisia, finished second in the 1650 free and 400 IM to fellow teammate Vendt at the Pac-10 Championships. He also performed well at the 2003 NCAA Championships, posting three top-five finishes and scoring 45 total points, the fourth best overall point total.

Kenney, led the Cardinal to its 22nd consecutive Pacific-10 Championship. At the Conference Championships, his swimmers won three individual titles and three relay titles. Kenney coached Stanford to a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships. At the pool in Austin, Texas, the Cardinal defended their 2002 title in the 200 free relay and finished as high as second in the 200 back. The men's swimming Coach of the Year award is the 15th of Kenney's career.

The Swimmer, Newcomer and Coach of the Year honors are determined by a coaches vote.
