OSU Rallies To Beat Washington, 6-5

SEATTLE - Oregon State battled back from a 4-1 deficit, scoring five over the last threeinnings to beat the Washington baseball team, 6-5, Sunday at Husky Ballpark. The OSUwin salvaged a split of the three-game Pac-10 series as the Huskies had won the first twogames.

The Huskies scored a run and had the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth, but OSUreliever Ty Kline struck out Husky DH Mike Wagner to end the game, earning his firstsave of the year.

Lefty reliever Brian Carter (0-1) suffered the loss for the Huskies, allowing two runs overtwo innings of work. Reliever Andy Baldwin (3-0) earned the win for OSU, holding theHuskies to one run on two hits over three innings. Washington fell to 21-10 on the seasonand 3-3 in the Pac-10 while the Beavers improved to 14-15, 2-4.

In the seventh, the Beavers came up with three runs to tie the game at 4-4. Tony Calderonsingled and scored on a double from center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury and Ellsbury camearound on a pinch-hit single from Levi Webber. After a balk moved Webber to second,pinch hitter Chris Kunda lined a single over third base to tie it.

OSU took its first lead of the game in the eighth. Chris Biles doubled for the second time inthe game with one out and then advanced to third on a Calderon single. Ellsbury followedwith a sacrifice fly to left and the Beavers led, 5-4.

After OSU added a sixth run in the top of the ninth, Washington tried to rally in the finalhalf inning. Brent Lillibridge reached on a one-out double to knock Baldwin out of thegame. After Kline got a groundout, Greg Isaacson singled to drive in a run. After a singleand a walk loaded the bases, the Wagner strikeout ended the game.

Washington opened the scoring in the first. Isaacson doubled and Kyle Larsen walked toput runners at first and second with two outs. Wagner followed with a double to center todrive home both runners, giving the Huskies a 2-0 lead after one.

OSU didn't notch its first hit until there was one out in the fourth. Left fielder Seth Pietschgot the Beavers started with a single and then moved to third on a double from Biles.Pietsch scored on a Calderon sacrifice fly to cut the UW lead to 2-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, a two-out, solo homer from Husky left fielder Chad Boudongot the lead back to two runs. Boudon, a junior from Shorewood High, leads the Huskieswith 10 homers this season. The UW made it 4-1 in the fifth when Larsen's bases-loadedgroundout sent Tila Reynolds home.

Isaacson and Boudon each tallied three hits to lead the Huskies while Biles' two doublespaced Oregon State.

The Huskies return to the road next weekend. Washington travels to Tucson to playArizona in a three-game series at Sancet Field. The Huskies then head to Kansas State for apair of non-conference games April 15 and 16.
