Cari DuBois Named NCAA West Regional Coach of the Year
April 10, 2003
Berkeley, Calif. - First-year women's gymnastics coach Cari DuBois added another honor to her list of accolades this afternoon, being named the 2003 West Region Coach of the Year, just a week after being named Pac-10 Coach of the Year.
DuBois, in her first year as head coach, has vaulted the Golden Bears into the national spotlight with a No. 18 national ranking, a 12-5 regular season finish and a trip to the North Central Regional Championships in Salt Lake City, this Saturday, April 12.
Under her tutelage, the 2003 Bears achieved the program's second-best one-year turnaround in school history - finishing with a 12-5 record after last year's disappointing 5-9 finish. As a team, besides accumulating a stellar .705 win percentage, the Bears achieved their place in the California annals, recording the Top 4 highest team scores of all-time capped off by a 196.800 mark in an upset victory over then-No. 18 Arizona (3/7). The 2003 squad also posted the Top 4 all-time scores on vault and Top 2 all-time on beam.
DuBois leads her squad to the NCAA Regional Championships for the first time since 2001, this Saturday, April 12 at 6:00 p.m. in Salt Lake City.
