Women's Golf to Face Western Schools at Peg Barnard Collegiate

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State women's golf team is off to the Peg Barnard Collegiate Apr. 12-13 at the Par 72, 6,168 yard Stanford Golf Course at Stanford, Calif....the Tournament will consist of 36 holes beginning with the first round at 9 a.m. Apr. 12, followed by the final round at 9 a.m. the following morning...
Last Year At The Peg Barnard Collegiate: Than freshman Jay-Lee Longbottom, who began the final round tied for 27th, carded a second round 75 to finish in a tie for 16th (152, +8), and than freshman Kim Welch completed the tournament in a tie for 26th (154, +10)...the Cougars finished seventh in the 14-team field with a total of 617, and ended the event ahead of Pacific-10 Conference rivals UCLA and Oregon State...Washington captured the team title with a two round total of 593.
Field: The 12-team field will consist of Stanford, Washington, Oregon State, Montana State, UC-Irvine, Scottish Institute, Nevada, Long Beach State, San Jose State, Hawaii, USF, and Washington State.
Last Week At The Dixie Classic: Led the 18th place finish by Maria Kostina, the Washington State women's golf team finished tied for 10th place at the Utah Dixie Classic at the Par-72, 5,780 yard Sunbrook Golf Course at St. George, Utah...as impressive as Kostina's effort was, teammates Jay-Lee Longbottom and Kim Welch vaulted their way up the leader board, finishing tied for 24th, with Longbottom moving up 27 spots to start her day, and Welch moving up 34 positions...Stephanie Parsley ended the tournament tied at 71st, followed by Donna Bell and Ashleigh Gilhuly tied at 79th to round out the Cougar contingent...as a team, the Cougars finished tied at 10th with UC-Irvine at 70-over, and just four shots back of seventh place in the field of 22 teams.
Marking the Scorecard: WSU ranks 66th as a team according to the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index...the Cougars are ranked 69th in the Div. I head-to-head rankings on Golfstat.com...Kim Welch ranks 104th in the Golfweek/Sagarin individual performance index.
Sq-Welch-ing The Competition: For the second time in her young collegiate career, Welch has been recognized with the College National Player of Week by GolfWorld magazine for their March 21 issue...Welch has been on a tear and already has matched her total Top 10 and broken her total Top 25 finishes for all of last year...Welch is just one Top 10 finish away from breaking the career record set by Tasha Browner at 12...Welch is ranked 46th toward the Women's Golfstat Cup, an award given to the best female golf performers by golfstat.com.
From Russia With Love: In her first three events as a Cougar, Kostina placed in the Top 3 every time with a tie for second at the Inland Collegiate, a second place finish at the Lady Moc Classic, and a third place finish at the Duck Invite, and with her 23rd place finish last week at the Bruin Classic and 18th place finish at the Dixie Classic, now has five consecutive Top 25 finishes...Kostina is ranked 116th in the Golfweek/Sagarin individual performance index...Kostina comes to the Cougars after having been one of the most successful Russian golfers over the last few years...Kostina was recognized by Golf Digest Magazine as 'The Best Russian Golfer' in 1999, 2001, and 2002.
