April 11, 2003

PULLMAN, Wash. - - Junior Bianca McCall took home most valuable player honors as well as the outstanding newcomer award to highlight the Washington State women's basketball team awards banquet, Thursday night at the Pullman Quality Inn.

McCall - an All-Pacific-10 Conference honorable mention selection - led the Cougars in points (13.1/game) and rebounds (8.1/game) and scored in double-digits in 21 of 28 games. Her nine double-doubles was third in the Pac-10 and her six 20-point games finished tied for eighth in the conference.

In addition, McCall, who transferred to WSU from Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, Calif., concluded the season ranked in the top 10 of the conference in five categories. She was second in offensive rebounds (3.71/game) and blocks (1.46/game), fourth in total rebounds, sixth in defensive rebounds (4.39/game) and 10th in scoring.

In her first game as a Cougar, McCall made an impression in the school record books against Wyoming, Nov. 22. She grabbed 19 rebounds against the Cowgirls to tie her for the sixth-best single-game rebounding performance in WSU history.

McCall was honored by a vote from her teammates as was junior Candace Fields (strength and conditioning power award), junior Holly Harris (team player award) and freshman Charmaine Jones (most improved award).

Despite missing eight games during the middle of the season with a left foot stress fracture, Fields still finished the season as the team's third leading scorer (7.7 points a game) and second leading rebounder (6.0/game).

Harris joined the team in mid-December after an Elite Eight run as a member of the volleyball team. In 21 games Harris averaged 6.1 points and 5.2 rebounds a contest.

After playing in one of the team's first nine games, Jones saw action in every one of the Cougars' final 19 games. The Los Angeles native averaged 4.0 points and 1.7 rebounds a game.
