No. 1 Softball Falls to No. 16 Stanford, 4-3

Tucson, Ariz.- The No. 1 Arizona softball team (37-4, 6-1) fell to No. 16 Stanford (31-14, 3-4), 4-3. Stanford freshman Catalina Morris hit back-to-back home runs in her first two at-bats.

Morris opened the inning with a home run to left field. A double by Elizabeth Bendig scored Lauren Lappin and the Cardinal went up, 2-0. Morris hit her second home run in the top of the second inning.

Arizona's offense came to life in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Cats scored two runs. Junior Mackenzie Vandergeest hit a double to centerfield to score freshman Autumn Champion and sophomore Jackie Coburn.

Senior Maureen LeCocq hit Stanford's third home run of the game in the top of the sixth innng to put the Cardinal up, 4-2.

Senior Lovie Jung hit her 21st home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning to spark a late-game rally, but the Cats came up a run short, falling 3-4 to the Cardinal.

The last time the Cats lost to Stanford at home was on April 9, 2000.The Cats will take on California on Saturday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at Hillenbrand Stadium.
