UW Hoopster Jeffrey Day Declared Ineligible

April 11, 2003

SEATTLE - Jeffrey Day has been ruled academically ineligible and is no longer enrolled at the University of Washington, men's basketball coach Lorenzo Romar announced Friday.

Day, who recently completed his sophomore season with the basketball team, has been dismissed from school. This is the second bout with academic difficulties for Day who was previously declared ineligible Dec. 27. He missed three games before being reinstated Jan. 8.

'It's unfortunate that he will not be with us here in our immediate future, but Jeffrey is committed to Washington and will do whatever is necessary to get back into the University,' Romar said. 'He wants to finish his career as a Husky and we are willing to assist Jeffrey to help him return, whenever that may be.'

The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 3.9 points and 2.7 rebounds during the 2002-03 season. Day played 24 games, starting six of them for Washington which finished the season with a 10-17 record. He registered career-high marks in the season opener with 10 points and nine rebounds against Montana State on Nov. 24.

A product of Seattle Prep High School, Day averaged 2.8 points and 2.8 rebounds as a UW freshman. He ranked second on the team with 30 blocked shots in 2001-02.
