The Ducks Shoot 14-Under in Final Round of the Thunderbird Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Oregon men's golf team finished 16th after the three rounds at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational. The Ducks shot a tournament low in the third round with a score of 274, and tied their season low with a tournament total of 859, five-under par, at the Karsten Golf Course, a par 72, 7,037-yard layout.

Oregon senior John Ellis and freshman Gregg LaVoie lead the Ducks with a combined score of 212 after three rounds, finishing in a tie for 32nd place. This was LaVoie's career best tournament score as well as his career best round shooting 68 in his final round. Senior Chris Carnahan came back after a tough second round improving by 11 strokes, recording his season best round with a 67 in the final round. Junior Mike Sica recorded his season best scoring 67 in the third round, finishing with a combined score of 219 securing him a tie for 71st. Finishing in 92nd, junior Jimmy White also recorded his season best round carding a 71 in the final round, with a 223 tournament total.

'We really played well today,' said Head Coach Steve Nosler. 'We finished off well, which will help our confidence. The kids have to be happy with themselves.'

Host team, Arizona state set a tournament record shooting 40-under par, with final team combined score of 824 (281-270-273). Southern California moved into second eight strokes behind at 832. Individually, David Schultz, from TCU, shot 15 strokes under par (68-66-67-201) finishing three stokes ahead of USC's David Oh who carded a 204 tournament total.
