UW Baseball Falls At Arizona, 13-4

TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona starter Sean Rierson held Washington to six hits over eightinnings as the Wildcats beat the Husky baseball team, 13-4, Saturday night at Sancet Field,squaring the three-game Pac-10 series at one win apiece.

Arizona (25-12 overall, 4-4 in the Pac-10) and Washington (22-11, 4-4) moved into a tiefor fourth place in the conference, alongside USC and two and a half games back of first-place Stanford.

Skyline High product Derek Decater led the Wildcats offense, going 3-for-3 with twodoubles, a triple and three runs batted in. UA catcher Richard Mercado finished 2-for-4with a double and a two-run homer.

Rierson, a junior righty, improved to 7-1 with the win. He allowed four runs (three earned)while walking one and striking out six.

Washington scored the game's first runs in the second inning. Chad Boudon reached on aleadoff walk and scored when John Otness belted a one-out triple to right-center. Rightfielder Taylor Johnson's sacrifice fly sent home Otness and Washington led, 2-0.

Arizona tied the game in the third. Pat Reilly singled and stole second. After an out,Terrance Taylor bounced a high chopper to short, but Husky shortstop had it go off hisglove for an error, allowing Reilly to score. After a walk and a wild pitch put runners atsecond and third, Decater delivered a sacrifice fly.

The Wildcats took the lead with a three-run fourth inning. Jeff Van Houten led off with adouble and scored on a triple from Brad Boyer. Mercado followed with his third home runof the season, staking his team to a 5-2 edge.

After Boudon doubled and scored on a Kyle Larsen single in the top of the sixth to cut theArizona lead to 5-3, Arizona stretched it to 9-3 with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Abases-loaded infield single from Trevor Crowe pushed one across and Moises Duranreached on a force at second to drive in another. Decater's second double of the gameplated a third run and UW reliever David Dowling balked, allowing Duran to score fromthird. Righty Scott Robertson came on and struck out the next two batters to end it.

Washington scored its fourth run in the seventh. Freshman Brent Lillibridge, who finishedthe game 3-for-3, singled and scored when Greg Isaacson's fly ball was dropped byArizona left fielder Trevor Crowe. Arizona capped the scoring in the eighth with an RBIdouble from Duran, a run-scoring triple from Decater and a wild pitch.

Husky starter Jeff Petersen (2-3) worked five innings in the loss, allowing six runs (fourearned) on seven hits.
