April 13, 2003
STANFORD, Calif. - The seventh-ranked Stanford men's tennis team defeated visiting Arizona in Pacific-10 Conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center. The match was postponed because of rain on Saturday, and was delayed nearly two hours on Sunday before starting at 12:00 p.m.
Stanford improved to 18-3 overall and 5-0 in the Pac-10, while 33rd-ranked Arizona slipped to 8-10 and 2-4.
Because of the weather conditions, the teams mutually agreed to play singles first. Stanford captured all six singles matches in straight sets to win going away.
At No. 1, 12th-ranked senior David Martin (Tulsa, OK) posted a convincing 6-1, 6-2 win over Whi Kim. At No. 2, 61st-ranked senior Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) outlasted 112th-ranked Carl Hagman 6-4, 7-5.
Arizona captured the final point of the dual by winning two of the three doubles matches.
Stanford concludes the 2002-03 home schedule against No. 26 Pepperdine on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. It will be the final regular season home match at the Taube Tennis Center for seniors Lipsky and Martin.
