Courtney Carter Elected to Pac-10 Conference Committee
April 15, 2003
Corvallis, Ore. - Oregon State University student-athlete Courtney Carter has been elected as a Pacific-10 Conference Co-Chairperson on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Pac-10 Assistant Commissioner Chris Dawson has announced.
Carter will be a senior this fall on the women's soccer team. She was selected to the Verizon Academic All-District first team and Pac-10 Conference all-academic second team at the conclusion of the 2002 season. She is majoring in business, with a minor in marketing.
The West Linn, Ore., native and Jesuit High School graduate led the team in scoring with 19 points, which included eight goals. She also netted three goals in a span of just over 10 minutes in a victory over Air Force.
The SAAC committee was formally established during the current academic year to provide a voice for student-athletes on conference and national issues. As a member of the Executive Committee, her responsibilities include appointing members to Pac-10 SAAC subcommittees, assisting in the planning of Pac-10 Student-Athlete Forum meetings, and creating an agenda for the Pac-10 SAAC meetings in consultation with the Communications Subcommittee.
'Oregon State is blessed to have such a fine and outstanding leader in Courtney Carter,' OSU Senior Woman Administrator Marianne Vydra said. 'Her confidence and willingness to take risks is boundless; she asks the good, hard questions, and she will serve the conference and OSU well.'
Carter is one of two representatives from OSU on the Pac-10 SAAC; she is joined by men's golfer Sean Deacon.
