Senior Andrea Vidlund Named Pac-10 Softball Player Of The Week
April 15, 2003
EUGENE - University of Oregon senior Andrea Vidlund was named the Pacific-10 Conference Softball Player of the Week for the week of April 7-13, commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. It is the first such honor for Vidlund and the third honor for an Oregon player this season. The last time the Ducks had three players honored in one season was 1999.
Vidlund (Fair Oaks, Calif.) contributed both offensively and defensively last week as the Ducks went 3-2 with two wins over Portland State and a win over No. 2 UCLA. Vidlund was 7-for-14 (.500) with five home runs, eight RBI and eight runs scored. In the Ducks' 3-2 win over the Vikings last Wednesday, Vidlund earned the win to improve her pitching record to 4-1 this season.
On Saturday, Vidlund was 1-for-2 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI while also picking up her fifth save of the season in the Ducks' 5-4 win over the Bruins. In all, Vidlund was 3-for-6 with four runs scored, five RBI and three home runs against UCLA All-American pitcher Keira Goerl.
After her impressive week, Vidlund is now fourth all-time at Oregon with 28 home runs, eighth all-time with 96 RBI and tied for 10th all-time with 87 runs scored. She is seven home runs shy of the school record set by Triawn Custer (1998-2001).
