Two Players Invited To USA Softball National Camp

April 15, 2003

SEATTLE-Washington softball standouts Jaime Clark (Tustin, Calif.) and Kristen Rivera (Perris, Calif.) are among 45 players invited to participate in a selection team camp, June 4-8, at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. The players will compete for spots on two teams that will represent the United States in international competition this summer.

Two teams will be selected following the team camp. The National team will represent the USA at the U.S. Cup in Honolulu, Hawaii (June 19-22), the Canada Cup in Surrey, British Columbia (July 4-13) and the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo (August 5-14). The USA Softball Elite Team will compete in the Canada Cup as well as the Japan Cup in Yokohama, Japan (July 18-20).

The trip to the training camp will mark the third for Clark, who was a member of the 2001 USA Blue national team. A three-time All-American, she ranks second on the Husky squad this season with 11 home runs and holds the school's career home run record with 67 dingers.

Rivera was selected to the USA Elite Team last summer but declined participation due to injury. A second team All-America pick last year, Rivera leads UW this season in average (.383), hits (47), home runs (17) and RBIs (51). She is also among the top-25 finalists for the Collegiate Softball Player of the Year Award given by the Amateur Softball Association.
