It's rivalry week and No. 1 ARIZONA continues to lead the Pac-10 and the nation, despite losing its first Conference game to No. 15/13 (USA Today-NFCA/ESPN.com-USA Softball) STANFORD last weekend ... A Pac-10 school has held the No. 1 spot in both polls throughout the entire season thus far ... The top-ranked Wildcats will face the No. 12/11 ARIZONA STATE Sun Devils ... The desert squads last dueled in the 2002 Women's College World Series, with Arizona edging the 'Devils, 1-0 ... The No. 10/7 CALIFORNIA Golden Bears will stay in the Bay Area with a non-conference warm-up against Santa Clara and then head down to Palo Alto to tangle with the Cardinal ... No. 20 OREGON takes on Sacramento State before hosting NR/No. 25 OREGON STATE in the second and third game of the softball Civil War ... No. 2 UCLA and No. 3 WASHINGTON will battle to get a leg up on Arizona, with a pair in Westwood.

PAC-10 PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEKOREGON'S ANDREA VIDLUND & ARIZONA STATE'S DESIREE SERRANO

OREGON senior Andrea Vidlund has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Softball Player of the Week, and ARIZONA STATE freshman hurler Desiree Serrano has been named Pitcher of the Week for April 7 -April 14, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Vidlund, from Fair Oaks, Calif., went 7-for-14 (.500) with five home runs, eight RBI and eight runs scored last week, as well as tossing three innings, earning a win a save and six strikeouts. She hit a home run in the first game of a doubleheader with Portland State, and left the yard again in the second game and top earned the win with two innings of no-hit pitching. In Oregon's 5-4 upset of UCLA, Vidlund slammed another home run and picked up her fifth career save. She homered twice in Oregon's loss to the Bruins on Sunday

Serrano, from Colton, Calif., picked up her Pac-10-leading sixth save of the year against California and pitched a complete game three-hitter against No. 16 Stanford to notch her 17th win of the year. Overall, she was 1-0 for the weekend on 10 innings pitched, with a save, allowing seven hits and one run with seven strikeouts.

The No. 22-ranked Ducks split with No. 2 UCLA, winning their first game against the Bruins since 1998, and fell to No. 3 Washington this weekend. The Sun Devils defeated No. 6 California and split their two games with No. 16 Stanford

It is the first weekly award for Vidlund, the 20th all-time for Oregon. It is the second honor for Serrano, the 39th all-time weekly honor for the Wildcats.

The Stanford pitching staff has two aces with a dozen or more wins in junior Dana Sorenson (15-5) and senior Tori Nyberg (13-7) ... Sorenson leads the Pac-10 with an average of 11.28 strikeouts per game ... Nyberg is flexing a Conference-best 8.9 strikeouts-to-walks ratio.

Senior SS Natasha Watley broke the Pac-10 career steals record with her 149th swipe, against Oregon on Saturday ... She then stole three more bags on Sunday for 152 all-time ... Freshman OF Caitlin Benyi hit three homers, going 7-for-12 (.583) with seven RBI over the weekend ... Junior P Keira Goerl has been almost unhittable for righthanded opponents, they are batting .098 (41-for-420) against the Bruin standout ... The Bruins have some clutch hitting: seven players are hitting .330 or better with two outs, and five have 10 or more two-out RBI.


WASHINGTON (37-5-1, 6-3)

Senior SS Jamie Clark is one RBI shy of breaking the Huskies career record (227, Jennifer Cline) ... The Huskies are the only squad with two 15 game winners and two hurlers with 100 or more K's ... Junior Tia Bollinger is 19-4 with a team-high 145 strikeouts this year, and boasts a 1.23 ERA, and sophomore Ashley Boek is 16-1 with 131 K's, and leads the staff with a 1.12 ERA ... Freshman OF Dena Tyson homered in back-to-back games over the weekend as the Huskies swept the Oregon schools.
