Men's Tennis Finishes Regular Season at Home

April 18, 2003

EUGENE - The No. 65 Oregon men's tennis team concludes its regular season with a home match against No. 13 Washington Saturday at noon. Weather permitting, the match will take place at the 15th Street Courts.

The Ducks (8-11, 0-6) are looking to avenge a previous 6-1 loss to the Huskies (15-5, 1-5) in Seattle. Sophomore Sven Swinnen scored Oregon's only victory in the match, which did not count towards conference standings.

This will be the final home match for two seniors - Jason Menke and Oded Teig. Menke, a native of Portland, Ore., served as a co-captain with Teig this season. Teig holds the Oregon career record for singles victories with 69.

Sophomore Manuel Kost, at No. 63, is Oregon's only ranked player. The Ducks currently do not have any ranked doubles teams.

The Huskies are led by sophomore Alex Vlaski, currently ranked No. 10 in the nation in singles play. Not far behind is senior Matt Hanlin, who is ranked No. 26. Vlaski and teammate Ari Strasberg form the No. 33-ranked doubles team.

If there is inclement weather, the match will be moved into the Student Tennis Center. Live scoring will be available for the match at

The Ducks will next be in action at the Pac-10 Championships beginning Thursday in Ojai, Calif. The four-day event will be an individual tournament for both singles and doubles.
