Tony Miranda Wins Discus Throw at Mt. SAC Relays

Junior Tony Miranda won the discus throw Friday, with a season-best mark of 183-10 in the second day of competition at the Mt. SAC Relays. The University of California's track and field teams are competing at the relays, hosted by Mt. San Antonio Community College in Walnut, Calif. Miranda's throw qualifies him for the posteason NCAA regional and Pac-10 championship.

The Golden Bears also did well in the women's 800 meter event. Senior Lache Bailey finished sixth in 2:09.32, while junior Chloe Jarvis placed eighth, clocking a 2:09.97 finish. In the men's 800m, sophomore Randy Fair ran a season-best time of 1:52.02.

Freshman Bridget Duffy and sophomore Lindsey Maclise also turned in season-best performances in the 1500m, running 4:33.11 and 4:33.23, respectively. Sophomore Abby Parker finished the race in 4:44.51.

Results from several events were not made available Friday evening. Those results will be reported in Saturday's recap.

The Mt. SAC Relays conclude tomorrow, Saturday, Apr. 19. The opening collegiate event is the women's shot put at 9:50 a.m. and the final gun is the men's invitational shot put at 2:35 p.m.
