Torres, Zeigle Earn Marks at Mt SAC
Walnut, Calif. - Day two at the Mt. SAC Relays went well for the six University of Colorado track & field athletes who competed, as Jorge Torres and Jackie Zeigle each ran NCAA qualifying times in the 1,500 meters to lead the Buffalo charge.
Zeigle, the lone Buff woman to compete on Friday, ran a personal best of 4:29.51 in the second section of the women's university open division of the 1,500 meter run. She led her heat the entire way, taking the lead early in the race and holding it over the last 1,200 meters.
Jorge Torres ran in the last heat of the men's 1,500 meters and finished in a time of 3:43.14, the 10th best time in CU history. He also had to take the lead early in the race and held it until the last 150 meters.
Two other Buffs competed in the 1,500, Jared Scott and Bryan Dillon. Dillon ran in the second section and jumped out to an early lead, but took a bad fall on the first turn. He recovered from the fall to run 3:56.98 and finish 12th. Scott was in the third section and ran a time of 3:53.14, and held the lead for a lap before being overtaken in the last 400 meters.
Freshman sprinter Chris Abuan had a great kick down the home stretch of the 400 meters, coming from seventh all the way to third in just 100 meters to run a time of 48.32. Earlier in the day, Chase Mullen threw the hammer 190-00, his second best throw of his career.
