Julianna Tudja Smashes Pac-10 Hammer Record At Mt. Sac Relays
April 19, 2003
Walnut, Calif. - Senior Julianna Tudja's extraordinary season just got better on Saturday as she threw the hammer 218-5 to shatter the Pac-10 record at the Mt. Sac Relays.
Tudja's mark surpasses the previous best of 215-0 held by Christina Tolson of UCLA. Tudja's old best came last weekend when she threw 211-1 at the Sun Angel Invitational.
Sophomore Allen Simms joined Tudja in the record books as he broke the USC triple jump standard held by teammate Julien Kapek. Simms bounded 56-1 1/4 to top Kapek's mark of 55-8 1/2 set last season. Simms' jump is the second-best in Pac-10 history. Simms finished second in the triple to Kenta Bell of Nike (56-9 1/2), while Kapek took fifth (54-2 3/4).
Several other Trojans put in excellent performances, as the USC squads geared up for the annual dual meet against UCLA to be held next Saturday (April 26).
