Men's Tennis Concludes Regular Season On Winning Note, Downing Oregon 4-3

EUGENE, Ore. - Thirteenth-ranked Washington men's tennis (16-5, 2-5) concluded the regular season, edging No. 65 Oregon (8-12, 0-7 Pac-10), 4-3, in Pac-10 play in Eugene, Ore., Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies won the doubles point and took three of six singles matches en route to their second conference victory of the season. Washington swept the season series with Oregon, after defeating the Ducks 6-1 in a non-conference contest in Seattle on Feb. 28.
UW's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams emerged victorious, with seniors Matt Hanlin and Dillon Ruby defeating Thomas Bieri and Manuel Kost, 9-8, and sophomores Christoph Palmanshofer and Peter Scharler cruising to an, 8-2, win over Jason Menke and Arron Spencer.
In singles play, 10th-ranked sophomore Alex Vlaski was upset by No. 63 Manuel Kost in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 1 position. UW's other nationally ranked player, Hanlin, battled back from a first-set loss to defeat Teig (6-7, 6-1, 6-2).
Washington's additional singles wins came from Palmanshofer and Ruby, both downing their opponents in straight sets. Palmanshofer defeated Chris King in the No. 5 position (6-1, 6-0), while Ruby took care of Menke at No. 6 (6-2, 6-4).
The Huskies now set their sights on the Pac-10 Championships held Thursday, April 24, through Sunday, April 27, in Ojai, Calif. The four-day event will be an individual tournament for both singles and doubles.
