Bruins Compete in Pac-10 Championships Thursday-Sunday

The Bruins (13-10, 4-4 Pac-10) will send three representatives to Ojai, CA to compete in the Pac-10 Championship tournament. UCLA's selections and the tournament draw will be announced later in the week. The tournament will begin on Thursday, April 24 at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club with the Pac-10 Women's Singles and Pac-10 Women's Invitational Singles. While the singles continue at the OVAC on Friday, the doubles draw and the invitational doubles draw will commence. On Saturday, the action moves to Libbey Park, where the semifinals of all four women's Pac-10 draws will take place. Sunday, play at Libbey Park continues, with the finals of all four draws. Both singles draw finals will begin at 9:30 a.m., and both doubles draw finals will begin at 12:30 p.m. Last year, the Bruins sent Petya Marinova, Sarah Gregg, and Catherine Hawley into the regular singles draw, with Mariko Fritz-Krockow in the invitational singles draw. Marinova and Sara Walker teamed in the doubles draw, as did Megan Bradley and Lauren Fisher. Fritz-Krockow and Gregg were in the invitaitonal doubles draw.
UCLA Concludes Regular Season at Cal and Stanford . . .
Despite a win by Sara Walker and Laura Gordon over the No. 1 doubles team in the nation, Stanford's Lauren Barnikow and Erin Burdette, the Bruins fell to No. 1 Stanford on Friday in Palo Alto, 6-1. Feriel Esseghir earned UCLA's point against the Cardinal with a 6-4, 2-6, (11-9) win over No. 35 Burdette. On Saturday against California, the Bruins were knocked off by No. 5 California, 6-1. Anya Loncaric earned UCLA's point with a 3-6, 7-5, (13-11) win over Cal's Jody Scheldt.
Bruins in the Rankings . . .
The Bruins remained at No. 15 in the April 16 poll, and no new individual rankings were released. Sara Walker is ranked 12th, Jackie Carleton 23rd, Susi Wild 71st, and Sarah Gregg 77th. The freshman team of Carleton and Feriel Esseghir stands at 57th in doubles.

Stella Sampras Webster Guides the Bruins . . .
In her seventh season as the Bruins' head coach, Stella Sampras Webster earned her milestone 100th career win against No. 11 Tennessee. In her first six seasons, she guided the Bruins to five top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, including three top-5 showings (1997, 2000, and 2002). In 2000, she was named the ITA West Region Coach of the Year. The former Stella Sampras married Steve Webster on January 3, 2003.
