Arizona Spring Football Notes - Day 14

April 22, 2003

TUCSON, Ariz. - Spring Football Notes...

... The University of Arizona football team practiced in full pads Tuesday afternoon for the squad's 14th spring practice session. Arizona will close spring drills with an evening practice on Thursday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m., in the UA practice facility...

... The Wildcats did some situational work with full lines for the majority of today's session, and the team also focused on scoring zone situations during the final stages of practice...

... Head coach John Mackovic has been pleased with the way the team has progressed through this year's edition of spring football practice. 'What I have liked about this spring is that we have had better opportunities to do team stuff because we had the Red-Blue game almost two weeks ago. It's been a good spring, and we have made the best of it. Very few guys have missed time during the last four weeks, and we have had some good, hard work during that time,' he said...

... 'I think the players are pleased with what we've been able to accomplish, and the coaches are pleased with what we've been able to accomplish from where we were coming into the spring. But, we still have a ways to go,' Mackovic added...

... Mackovic offered some praise for the defense's overall performance following today's session. 'The defense, especially the pass defense, had a really good day, and they were all over it today. The defensive coaches have done a really good job of teaching the players every day,' he said...

... On the offensive side of the ball, Mackovic was impressed with sophomore running back Beau Carr's effort during today's practice. 'You can really see why they like to give him the football close to the goal-line. He is a good, tough runner,' he said.
