OSU Tops Oregon In Spring Season Finale

April 22, 2003

Brianna Monka and Lindsey Beem combined to give Oregon State a 2-1 win over Oregon in the final match of the spring season for the women's soccer team, played on April 16.

Monka's goal came off a corner kick from Jillian Nicks early in the second half, and was followed shortly thereafter by Beem's blast from outside the box.

Oregon scored with 15 minutes remaining to make it 2-1, though OSU had a chance to forge a 3-1 lead but missed a penalty kick.

'I thought we played well,' OSU coach Steve Fennah said. 'We got good connection between our midfield players and our forwards, but there's still some work to do with getting our strikers to work together.

'Defensively, we looked solid, and we moved the ball around very well and controlled the entire tempo of the game apart from two small spells where Oregon put a little bit of pressure on us.

'We played in difficult conditions with a lot of rain, but I thought our team played good possession soccer and moved the ball around to create a lot of opportunities.'

OSU opens its official 2003 slate with matches at San Diego State and San Diego on August 29 and 31.
