Rowing To Compete Against LMU Saturday, Stanford On Sunday

The USC woman's rowing team will race twice this week with dual races scheduled on Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27. A Women of Troy mixed boat will face Loyola Marymount at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Ballona Creek in Marina del Rey. On Sunday, the Trojans host Stanford at the USC Boathouse in the Port of Los Angeles. Races begin at 10 a.m.
The USC Varsity Eight crew recently moved up one spot to No. 6 in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll. The Women of Troy are ranked behind Cal, Washington, Princeton, Stanford and Michigan. Rankings will be updated on April 24.
Key Dual Meet For Team Bid
The NCAA selection committee, who will be selecting the team bids for the NCAA Championships in May, will be paying close attention to the results Sunday's USC-Stanford match-up. Washington, California, Stanford and USC are the four top Pac-10 teams currently vieing for one of seven at large team bids that are awareded on a national basis (the top-ranked team in the west region will receive an automatic bid). An NCAA team bid includes a Varsity Eight, JV Eight and Varsity Four boat. The Women of Troy will be racing a Varsity Eight, JV Eight, Varsity Four and Novice Eight boat on Saturday.
Boat Dedication And BBQ To Follow
Fans are invited to the boat dedication ceremony and BBQ immediately following the USC-Stanford races on Sunday. The Women of Troy will be naming their two new eights and one new four. Directions to the USC Boathouse can be found at usctrojans.com.

Only One Boat to Compete Saturday
Due to the key match-up with Stanford on Sunday, the Women of Troy will only be sending one boat of eight to Saturday's race against LMU. A mixed boat of experienced and novice rowers will face LMU in a JV Eight race.
Directions to the LMU Boathouse
405 Fwy North or South to 90 Fwy, the Marina del Rey Fwy. Take 90 west to Mindinao. Left onto Mindinao to Admiralty. Left to Fiji. Right on Fiji. Fiji runs into the marina, bends along Fisherman's Village, then circles back onto itself.
Last Time Out
The Women of Troy last competed at the San Diego crew Classic, April 5-6. In a preview of this weekend's dual, Stanford edged the USC Varsity Eight in the sprint to take third in a close race between four Pac-10 schools. Cal edged Washington by .08 seconds to win the race as the Trojans were forced to settle for fourth place. The JV Eight also finished fourth, two seconds ahead of fifth-place Stanford to match their best-ever finish, having also placed fourth in 2001. USC's Novice earned a best-ever finish, placing finishing ninth overall and two seconds ahead of tenth-place Stanford.
