UCLA Gymnastics - NCAA Pre-Meet Press Conference Quotes
April 23, 2003
UCLA Head Coach Valorie Kondos Field
'I want to say thank you to Nebraska. It has been an incredible experience the last 24 hours we have been here. Everything is first rate from the hotels to the student store. They have a beam and vault in the student store. As far as our season is concerned, I feel like we've had a dream team. I've never coached a team as deep and has the leadership that we have. We've got five seniors that are phenomenal people and eight juniors. The leadership on this team is a coach's dream. We are talented. We have depth and we are healthier than we were a couple of months ago. We don't have a superstar. We have a handful of them and all of them could win all around, but they would just be happy to score the points. It has been a dream experience.'
On Jamie Dantzscher
'I think Jamie is one of the most misunderstood gymnasts in college. What most people don't know about her is that she has a huge heart and she is one of the most humble gymnasts I have ever coached. We talk about when you are on an event you are the queen of that event, but as soon as you step off of it, you are just Jamie Dantzscher. When she wins an all-around or when she gets another ten she is excited about it because it helps the team. It is nice to see what a lot of people don't know about her that she is very humble.'
UCLA Junior Jamie Dantzscher
On home court advantage for Nebraska
'I think it is nice to have the home court advantage, but the way I look at it is that they are definitely coming to see good gymnastics and they definitely appreciate that. I think that our goal as a team is to get the audience on our side by showing them that.'
On pressure of being No. 1
'We know we are ranked No. 1 but I don't think that we feel pressure. Our team goal is to have a good time and compete how we've been competing all year. We've worked really hard and we've made little improvements every week and we've focused on the details. Now we can go out there and do what we've been doing because there isn't really anything else to improve on.'
