No. 16 Stanford Softball Defeats No. 4 Huskies

SEATTLE - The 16th-ranked Stanford (35-18, 5-8 Pac-10) softball team defeated fourth-ranked Washington (39-8-1, 6-6 Pac-10) 8-0 in five innings this afternoon at the Husky Softball Stadium. The Cardinal scored eight runs on eight hits to win the three-game series two games to one.

The Cardinal were led offensively by Kira Ching who went 2-for-3, including a three-run double in the first inning.

Stanford added another run in the second with a solo home run by Jessica Allister and four more in the third on two hits and two Husky errors.

Washington put runners in scoring position in the first and third innings but were unable to score.

Sophomore Ashley Boek (17-3) took the loss for UW as she allowed five hits and seven runs (four earned) over 2.1 innings. Dana Sorensen notched her 17th win of the season as she held Washington to three hits and struck out five.

Amanda Oleson, Jaime Clark and Megan Owen had singles for the Huskies.

Washington looks to bounce back tomorrow when it hosts No. 9 California at 2 p.m. The Bears are also coming off a lopsided loss as they dropped a 10-0 decision to second-ranked UCLA this afternoon.
