Trojan Pairs Advance To Championship Rounds

April 26, 2003

OJAI, Calif. - The USC men's and women's tennis teams saved their best performances for doubles play, as they proved on Saturday, April 26, by winning their semifinal matches to advance to the championship round of the 2003 Pac-10 Tournament and Invitational at Ojai.

On the men's side, the Trojans' Parker Collins and Daniel Langre were at the top of their game as they upset Arizona State's Oliver Charroin and Chris Stewart with an 8-4 victory. Collins and Langre will now face Stanford's K.C. Corkery and James Pade for the main draw tournament title on Sunday.

The Women of Troy's Bernadette Bayani and Melissa Esmero have displayed equally outstanding performances in the Pac-10 Women's Invitational. The pair, which has only played a total of nine matches together this season, easily defeated Cal's Kristen Case and Jessica Shu, 8-2, in Saturday's semifinal. Bayani and Esmero will face Dianne Hollands and Kelly Perry of Arizona on Sunday for the championship.

Esmero is very accustomed to Sunday's championship atmosphere. As a freshman, she captured the Pac-10 Invitational Singles Championship.
