Bruins Learn of NCAA Tournament Pairing on Wednesday

The No. 13 UCLA women's tennis team will find out its NCAA Tournament draw on Wednesday, April 30 at 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time on ESPNEWS. Last season, the Bruins hosted Washington, Southern, and Loyola Marymount as part of the first two rounds of the 64-team tournament. One qualifying team from each of the 16 host sites will compete in Gainesville, FL for the NCAA title.
Bruins Compete at Ojai . . .
Four UCLA players competed in the main singles draw at the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, CA last weekend, and two more played in the invitational draw. Susi Wild had the best tournament of the main draw competitors, defeating 10th-ranked Jewel Peterson of USC, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2, before falling to Erin Boisclair of Washington in the second round. Laura Gordon, Shilpa Joshi, and Anya Loncaric were defeated in opening round play. In the invitational draw, Nina Yaftali won two matches to advance to the quarterfinals and Kate Jolson fell in the first round. In the backdraw, Loncaric and Jolson won the only matches they played, while Gordon and Joshi fell. In the main doubles draw, UCLA's only entrant, the duo of Joshi and Loncaric, fell to USC's Peterson and Tiffany Brymer in the first round, but won the only match they played in the doubles backdraw.
Bruins Move Up in the Rankings . . .
The Bruins climbed to No. 13 in today's rankings, and two Bruins rose in the individual rankings. Sara Walker is ranked 12th, Jackie Carleton 20th, Susi Wild 50th, and Sarah Gregg 96th. Walker and Laura Gordon have the 46th spot in the doubles poll. This season, UCLA played a schedule featuring seven of the top eight teams in the nation in the current poll.

Stella Sampras Webster Guides the Bruins . . .
In her seventh season as the Bruins' head coach, Stella Sampras Webster earned her milestone 100th career win against No. 11 Tennessee. In her first six seasons, she guided the Bruins to five top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, including three top-5 showings (1997, 2000, and 2002). In 2000, she was named the ITA West Region Coach of the Year. The former Stella Sampras married Steve Webster on January 3, 2003.
