Series History: Lewis-Clark State leads the all-time series vs. Washington, 15-14, though under Coach Ken Knutson, Washington is 10-6 against the Warriors. Last year, L-C State won the teams' only meeting, 6-5, thanks to a five-run fourth inning. UW had a run in and a runner at second in the ninth with no outs, but Kevin Welch slammed the door to preserve the L-C win. Washington State leads the all-time series vs. the UW, 220-162. However, the UW is 48-20 against the Cougars over the last 11 seasons, including 16-2 over the last four, including a three-game, non-league sweep earlier this season. In those three games, March 7-9 in Seattle, the Huskies won the three non-conference games, 11-8, 6-5, and 8-1. Coach Knutson is 11-2 head-to-head vs. current WSU coach Tim Mooney.
Coach 'K': In 10-plus seasons as the head coach of his alma mater, Ken Knutson has led the Dawgs to two Pac-10 championships, four Pac-10 Northern Division titles, two second-place finishes and four NCAA Regionals. His career overall record stands at 375-248-1 (.602). With those 375 wins, he is the second-winningest coach in UW history, trailing only Bob MacDonald (422). Before becoming the Husky head man in 1993, Knutson served as the Husky pitching coach for eight seasons. In 1985, his UW pitching staff led the nation with a 2.80 ERA. Knutson holds a 182-81-1 (.691) record in home games. He is 158-112 (.585) in conference games. Knutson has coached 37 first-team All-Pac-10 selections in 10 seasons, and has been named league coach of the year three times. A 1981 All-Pac-10 left-handed pitcher at the UW, he is joined by assistants Joe Ross, Travis Jewett, and Gregg Swenson and undergrad assistant Jeremiah Porter.

Last Week: After sweeping a three-game, non-conference series from Hawaii-Hilo, the Huskies took two of three games in a Pac-10 series vs. Cal at Husky Ballpark. Friday night, the Huskies routed the Bears, 16-3, behind a three-homer, eight-RBI performance from Chad Boudon. Boudon hit two solo homers and a grand slam and also added a sac fly and an RBI single in a 4-for-5 night, becoming only the second Husky on record to record three HRs in a game. Sean White allowed only four hits over seven innings in the win. Saturday, Cal raced to a 6-1 lead and hung on to win, 6-3. Jeff Petersen suffered the loss, allowing five runs over five innings. Sunday, the Huskies took the series with an 11-3 win. The UW scored six in the third and got homers from Boudon and Greg Isaacson. Clay Johnson, who also beat Hilo earlier in the week, earned Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week with a six-inning, one-run win.
Outstanding In The Field: Washington is its best year ever in terms of its defense. Through 41 games, the Huskies are fielding a Pac-10-leading .980 (third in NCAA Division I) and have made only 31 errors. Washington's school record for fielding percentage is .964, set in 1980 and tied in 1994. This year, the Huskies have played error-free in 26 of 41 games so far while opponents have made at least one error in all but nine games. Washington infielders have committed only 17 errors all season. By way of comparison, South Carolina led the NCAA with a .975 fielding percentage last season. Also, opponents have been very wary when it comes to trying to steal bases vs. the UW. Over the last 30 games, opponents have stolen only 12 bases while being caught 15 times.
