Men's Golf Takes Fourth At Pac-10 Championships

Glendale, Calif. - The Stanford men's golf team shot a 369 on the final day of competition of the 2003 Pac-10 Championships at the Oakmont Country Club, to finish fourth overall with a four-round total of 1478. UCLA won the tournament carding a one-under par 1439 while Arizona took second (1466). Arizona State placed third (1475) and Washington finished fifth (1484).

Bruin John Merrick fired a nine-under par 63 on the final day of competition to take top individual honors, shooting a 12-under par 276 for the tournament. Cardinal Jim Seki and Arizona State's Brady Stockton tied for second at two-under par 286. Rounding out the top five were Arizona's Ricky Barnes (288) and Sun Devil Alejandro Canizares (288).

Cardinal senior Ron Won notched his sixth top-25 finish of the season as he placed 20th individually with a 298 (74-74-76-74). Sophomore Kevin Blue recorded his third top-25 finish on the year, tying for 23rd overall with a four-round score of 300 (78-71-77-74). Senior George Downing tied for 32nd with a 303 (75-79-75-74) while teammate Blake Mastalir tied for 37th (76-73-76-79--304). Freshman Kyle Gentry shot a 74 in the final round this afternoon.
