Three Bears Selected for NCAA Individual Competition

Berkeley, Calif. - Senior captain #25 Christina Fusano and juniors #6 Raquel Kops-Jones and #53 Jieun Jacobs were selected to represent the University of California women's tennis team at the 2003 NCAA Individual Championships, announced by the NCAA Division I Subcommittee this afternoon, May 1 in Indianapolis. The fourth-ranked Bears will also be competing in the team competition beginning with a Round of 64 matchup with Army at 7:00 p.m. (CST), May 9 in College Station, Texas.
Fusano and Kops-Jones are making their second consecutive trips to the singles championship while Jacobs makes her first appearance. The three have combined for a 90-35 (.720) overall record this season, including 51-19 (.729) in dual match play.
The nation's fourth-ranked doubles tandem of Fusano and Kops-Jones was also selected as one of 32 doubles teams to compete for the doubles championship. Kops-Jones has been a two-year fixture in the doubles championship, but makes her first trip with Fusano in 2003. The two have combined for a 30-9 overall record this year, while most recently capturing their second consecutive Pac-10 doubles championship.
