Seigler On Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List
May 2, 2003
CORVALLIS - Oregon State senior middle linebacker Richard Seigler has been selected as one of 36 players on the watch list for the 2003 Bronko Nagurski Trophy, awarded annually to the nation's top defensive college player.
The 800-member Football Writers Association of America selects the Bronko Nagurski Trophy candidates and the eventual winner. The Trophy is presented to the winner at a banquet on December 8 in Charlotte, N.C.
Seigler earned first-team All-Pac-10 Conference selection in 2002 as a junior. Seigler has been a three-year starter for Oregon State and has a chance to potentially start 49 straight games for the Beavers, which would be an all-time record.
He enters his senior year with 264 career tackles, 4 sacks and 35 tackles for loss. He has broken up 12 passes and has six career interceptions. Richard has 940 career defensive points in the OSU system, which ranks fifth all-time. He should easily become the Beavers' all-time defensive record holder at the conclusion of the 2003 season.
