No. 1 Softball Beats Stanford, 6-0

The No. 1 Arizona Softball (47-4, 16-1) team defeated No. 15 Stanford (36-23, 5-13), 6-0. The Cats are currently on a ten-game winning streak.

All six of Arizona's runs came in the sixth inning. Sophomore Jackie Coburn scored from third base when sophomore Courtney Fossatti reached base off of an error by Stanford's third baseman Elizabeth Bendig. Sophomore Allyson Von Liechtenstein reached base when Stanford pitcher Dana Sorenson walked her and eventually scored from third off of a wild pitch.

Sophomore Crystal Farley scored when junior Wendy Allen hit a single to right field. With Allen and Fossatti on base, junior Mackenzie Vandergeest hit a three run home run, her 12th home run this season.

Freshman Alicia Hollowell had her ninth one-hitter of the season. Hollowell pitched seven innings and struck out 11 batters. Hollowell improves to 32-3 on the season.

The Cats continue action next weekend when they take on UCLA on Friday, May 9 at 7 p.m. and Washington on May 10 in a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m.
