Men's Golf Receives Bid to NCAA West Regional

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team was one of 27 teams selected to participate in the 2003 NCAA West Regional, the NCAA announced Monday. It is the 15th consecutive regional appearance for the Wildcats.

Arizona was seeded third in a field of 27 teams for the regional, which takes place May 15-17 at Washington National Golf Course in Federal Way, Wash. Also included in the field are (seed): UCLA (1), UNLV (2), Georgia (4), Arizona State (5), tournament-host Washington (6), New Mexico (7), USC (8), Pepperdine (9), San Diego State (10), California (11), Fresno State (12), UC-Irvine (13), Brigham Young (14), Colorado State (15), Texas-El Paso (16), Denver (17), Oregon (18), Austin Peay (19), Stanford (20), Oregon State (21), Old Dominion (22), Xavier (23), Oral Roberts (24), Navy (25), Central Connecticut State (26), and Loyola, Md. (27). Six individuals are also included in the 141-man field.

It marks Arizona's 17th consecutive NCAA Postseason appearance and the program's 15th straight appearance in the NCAA Regional. Since the NCAA adopted the regional format in 1989, Arizona is one of only six schools nationally to appear in every NCAA Regional.

Currently ranked No. 3 in the current Precept/GCAA Coaches Poll, Arizona has won four of seven tournaments this spring. The four wins in 2002-03 are the most for the Wildcats in a single season since 1991-92 when Arizona captured the national championship.

The Wildcats most recently finished second at the 2003 Pacific-10 Conference Championships, it best finish since 1994. All told, Arizona has eight top-three finishes as a team in 12 events this season.

The top 10 teams and two individuals from each of three NCAA Regionals qualify for the 2003 NCAA Men's Golf Championships, which are scheduled for May 27-30 at Karsten Creek Golf Course in Stillwater, Okla.
