May 8, 2003
Los Angeles - Two Trojan decathletes lead the charge for Troy at this weekend's Pac-10 Multi-Events Championships held on Cromwell Field at Loker Stadium on the campus of USC.
The meet starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday with the Men's 100m. It concludes on Sunday with the Men's 1500m.
It's a chance for the No. 3 USC men's track and field team to pick up some key points heading into the main weekend of Pac-10 competition held on May 17-18 at USC.
Senior Shelton Davis, who is sixth on the all-time USC decathlon chart with a score of 7,236 points (scored at the Occidental Meet earlier this year), is the Trojans' leading returner in the event. At last year's Pac-10 Championships in Pullman, Wash., Davis finished fourth with a score of 7,122 points. Coming into this year's meet, Davis has the third-best score in the Pac-10, behind Darlon Powell of Washington State (7,243) and Santiago Lorenzo of Oregon (7,911).
Also competing for USC will be Icelandic freshman Jonas Hallgrimsson, who scored 6,855 points at the Occidental meet (seventh in the conference), and most recently showed his wares in the triple jump at the UCLA dual meet with a leap of 50-1 1/4.
Ten team points will go to the winner of the decathlon, with eight for second, six for third, five for fourth, four for fifth, three for sixth, two for seventh and one for eighth.
Results for the Pac-10 Multi-Events will be available on www.usctrojans.com.
