UCLA Spring Swimming and Diving Update

Junior Sara Platzer has been selected to the USA Swimming National team. Platzer will compete in the 50 Free and relays at the World University Games, August 24-30 in Daegu, Korea. It is the second time Platzer will represent the US at the World University Games, having participated in the 2001 Games in Beijing, China, and placing fourth in the 50m Free.

Assistant coach Greg Meehan will be a member of the USA Swimming Staff for its Distance Camp, held June 8-22. The two week training camp is attended by top male and female distance and IM swimmers and will include American record holder Maggie Bowen. UCLA freshmen Liz Keating has also been invited to attend the camp.

The annual Blue-Gold meet took place Monday, May 12th, and was won by the Blue team. The following 2003 team awards were presented:

Most Improved: Lindsey Smart
Outstanding Newcomer: Kim Vandenberg
Most Valuable Diver: Regan Gosnell
Most Valuable Swimmer: Malin Svahnstrom, Sara Platzer
High Point: Kim Vandenberg
