Cal in 12th After First Round of NCAA West Regional

AUBURN, Wash. - The California men's golf team is in 12th place after the opening round of the 27-team NCAA West Regional at Washington National Golf Club. The first round began on Thursday and concluded today due to inclement weather. The Golden Bears shot a plus-13 301 and are only four shots away from being in one of the Top 10 qualifying spots for the NCAA Championships.
UCLA grabbed the first-round lead with a team score of 291, while New Mexico is second at 294 and Arizona is third at 295.
Junior Peter Tomasulo, a two-time first team All-Pac-10 pick, paced the Bears in the opening round, tying for 8th with an even-par 72. New Mexico's Michael Letzig shot a 69 to hold a one-shot edge over Arizona's Chris Nallen and San Diego State's Brian Miller.
