May 20, 2003
PULLMAN, Wash. --- Washington State offensive tackle Calvin Armstrong has been selected to the 2003 Rotary Lombardi Award watch list.
Armstrong, a 6-8, 321-pound junior, became the first Cougar to be named first team All-Pac-10 as a sophomore since kicker Jason Hanson accomplished the feat in 1989.
The Rotary Lombardi Award is given annually to the nation's premier down lineman or linebacker. Armstrong is one of 40 players on the preseason list. Linebacker Matt Grootegoed and offensive tackle Jacob Rogers of USC, and linebacker Richard Seigler of Oregon State were the other representatives from the Pac-10.
Armstrong also was recognized by collegefootballnews.com as a member of its All-America watch list. The Centralia, Wash., native has started 20 games in his Cougar career.
