The Husky players and coaches will gather at the Don James Center in Husky Stadium to watch the show. Press are more than welcome to attend. Historically, teams with over-.500 records in the Pac-10 earn tournament berths. The UW needs at least one win this weekend vs. USC to finish over .500 in the conference.

Series History: USC holds a commanding 24-5 advantage over Washington in the all-time series, though the teams hadn't played each other very frequently until the last six or seven years. The Huskies didn't post their first win over USC until the 1996 Pac-10 playoffs, when the Trojans took two of three to win the overall Pac-10 title. In 2001 in Seattle, the Huskies won two of three in their first-ever series win over the Trojans. Last year in L.A., the Trojans won two of three, winning games one (4-1) and three (8-6). In the middle game, a 9-3 UW win, Tyler Davidson became the first Husky on record to hit three homers. Coach Ken Knutson is 5-10 all-time vs. the Trojans.

Coach 'K': In nearly 11 seasons as the head coach of his alma mater, Ken Knutson has led the Dawgs to two Pac-10 championships, four Pac-10 Northern Division titles, two second-place finishes and four NCAA Regionals. His career overall record stands at 384-251-1 (.605). With those 384 wins, he is the second-winningest coach in UW history, trailing only Bob MacDonald (422). Before becoming the Husky head man in 1993, Knutson served as the Husky pitching coach for eight seasons. In 1985, his UW pitching staff led the nation with a 2.80 ERA. Knutson holds a 187-82-1 (.694) record in home games. He is 164-115 (.588) in conference games. Knutson has coached 37 first-team All-Pac-10 selections in 10 seasons, and has been named league coach of the year three times. A 1981 All-Pac-10 left-handed pitcher at the UW, he is joined by assistants Joe Ross, Travis Jewett, and Gregg Swenson and undergrad assistant Jeremiah Porter.

Last Weekend: In a crucial series last weekend at Husky Ballpark, the Huskies took two of three games from No. 3 Arizona State. Saturday, the Huskies won, 5-1, behind excellent pitching from starter Sean White and reliever Trent Baysinger, as well as two homers from junior Mike Wagner. White went six innings, allowing one run on five hits, and Baysinger got the save with three one-hit innings, fanning five. Sunday, ASU's vaunted offense got on track as the Devils knocked 12 hits in an 11-3 win. Jeff Petersen suffered the loss and all the of the Huskies' runs came on homers from Wagner and Brent Lillibridge. Monday, the Huskies took the series with a tight, 6-4 win. Junior Chad Boudon hit his 20th and 21st homers of the season to break the UW record. His first tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth and opened the gates for two more runs that inning on a single from Nick Batkoski. Lillibridge added a solo homer and Boudon hit another while closer Will Fenton kept his spotless ERA in tact with two and one-third innings of relief, fanning five. Clay Johnson surrendered 12 hits, but allowed only four runs over six-plus innings, for the victory.

Outstanding In The Field: Washington is having its best year ever in terms of its defense. Through 53 games, the Huskies are fielding a Pac-10-leading .980 (second in NCAA Division I) and have made only 40 errors. Washington's school record for fielding percentage is .964, set in 1980 and tied in 1994. This year, the Huskies have played error-free in 32 of 53 games while opponents have made at least one error in all but 12 games. Washington infielders have committed only 22 errors all season. By way of comparison, South Carolina led the NCAA with a .975 fielding percentage last season. Also, opponents have been very wary when it comes to trying to steal bases vs. the UW. Over the last 43 games, opponents have stolen only 25 bases while being caught 22 times.
