Soong, Reynolds Win at Hartnell College Throwers Meet

Junior Cari Soong and sophomore Briona Reynolds won their events Tuesday (May 20) at the 24th annual Hartnell College Throwers Meet in Salinas.

Soong (Riverside North) won the women's invitational hammer, with a mark of 214-0. Last Saturday at the Pac-10 meet, Soong won the hammer and her mark of 215-11 was a personal-best, UCLA record, Pac-10 Championship meet record, No. 2 in Pac-10 history and No. 9 all-time on the USA list.

Reynolds (Grand Forks, ND/Red River) won the women's open discus and her mark of 175-11 was a season-best. She also placed third (50-10.25) in the invitational shot put.

Also competing for the Bruin women at Hartnell College were:

  • Junior Lara Saye (Henderson, NV/Silverado) - second in the open discus (169-10).
  • Senior Chaniqua Ross (Elk Grove/Laguna Creek) - fifth in the invitational discus with a season-best 184-8. Ross is the defending NCAA Outdoor discus champion.
  • Sophomore Jessica Cosby (Mission Hills/Cleveland) - third in the invitational hammer (191-5) and second in the invitational shot put (55-9.75, season-best). Cosby is the defending NCAA Outdoor shot put champion and last weekend also won the Pac-10 shot put crown.

    Bruin great Seilala Sua won the invitational shot put (56-11.50) and was second (203-2) in the invitational discus.

    Marks from the Salinas meet do not count toward NCAA qualifying, but they do count for personal-bests, school records and USA qualifying
